Super Chicken

I think we may have found a new default after-football game-eating joint. That is if we're not visiting Wendy or Ronald after our 9pm games. We've already been twice since our recent discovery! The menu is quite large so I look forward to trying more dishes.

Quarter Chicken Platter (2 sides: rice and corn)

Can't go wrong with the 1/4 dark here. I love corn and rice so it's pretty much a sure bet for me. Only complaint is the salty green sauce.

Onion Salad

I know a lot of people hate onions and even though I like them I wouldn't dare have a pure onion salad like this. But my friend got it and after trying some I was sold. I liked how the lemony flavor balanced out with the rest of my meal. maybe stay away if you're on a date ;)

Quarter Chicken Platter (2 sides: yuca and veggies)

Yuca is fantastic when it's cooked right, but I say no to Yuca at super chicken. It was dry and starchy.

Steak Burrito & Fries

My second meal here I tried their burrito, and it was confusing. It wasn't bad but sometimes I forgot and thought I was eating a cheese steak sandwich with tortilla and rice. I'll save burritos for chipotle next time.

Jumbo Jumbo

There's something to be said about finding a favorite haunt where everybody knows your name, like Cheers. For me, it's finding a place where they know my order (who cares if they don't know my name?!) and make it exactly the way I like it. Jumbo Jumbo is one of those places for me. (Thai by Thai being the other)

My typical order:
Beef Noodle Soup

Tender beef, pickled veggies (where Jumbo Jumbo stands out versus other beef noodle soups), and not too salty/soy sauce-ish. Probably my favorite non-homemade beef noodle soup! You can also request extra spicyness to be added.

Taiwan Chicken

Spicy deep fried chicken morsels. A lot of NYC/CA bubble tea shops have similar chicken snacks, but not too many DC shops have them... why? I do not know.

I usually pair this with a large Jasmine Green Milk Tea with tapioca balls. Sorry, no pictures of the bubble tea. But Jumbo Jumbo has some of the best bubble tea in the area if you ask me!!

Warning: Jumbo Jumbo also goes by Bubble Express. In fact, that is the name that will appear outside on the shopping plaza.

no food day

Today is a no food blogging day for 2 reasons:

1. I LOST MY CAMERA in ny! bye bye canon s95. I loved you dearly.

2. I couldn't bare looking at all my food pics cuz I forced myself into a clear liquid diet since sat night.

I was showing hints of similar symptoms of a condition I had a few years back. So in effort to avoid staying in the hospital another 5 days and $4,000 (after insurance), I stopped eating solids to see if that will fix me (I think it's working).

On the upside, since I like to make up stuff to make myself feel better, I just "saved" $4K by not going to the hospital which justifies a camera replacement and then some. Yay for delusional logic! :D

o I miss you food. Random things I've been craving: fried chicken, sushi, fries, rice, eggs, dim sum, ramen, ok stomach growl, I'm gonna stop here.

BCS Barbecue

My friend said she refuses to read this blog cuz I keep posting about unavailable food in cali. So here's a local one just for you Janifar. :]

We were wrapping up our house shopping in Bethesda, and ran across a food truck on the corner of Old Georgetown Rd and Greentree Rd just in time for lunch. A nice little find right in my back yard.

BCS Barbecue

Looking forward to coming back and trying out the brisket and ribs.

Pulled Pork Platter

I tried the sides first and was quickly disappointed. Mac and cheese was mushy and gritty, and the potato salad was more like weird mashed potatoes.

Good thing I didn't stop there, cuz the pulled pork was moist and tastier than average.

LA eating fun (part 2)

Eating day #2 was great. I found another favorite to add to my piqqy collection! Check out Porto's bakery if you're ever by Burbank (also in Glendale and Downey). Thanks nuba for a fun and very full 1.5 days.

Porto's Bakery: Cheese Rolls

my friend brought some back to share after his LA trip, and i had to check it out myself. As expected, it was even better fresh.

Porto's Bakery: potato balls

fried mashed potato balls with seasoned ground beef, fantastic.

Jelly Bean Factory: dark chocolate covered strawberry jelly bellys!

we sampled a bunch of dark chocolate covered jelly beans, and we all liked strawberry the best. i greedily brought me back a few bag fulls. i wonder when they'll start selling it in regular stores.

Santouka: Spicy Miso Ramen combo

my friend used to live by a Mitsuwa in Jersey and i loved going there whenever we visited, so I got rather excited seeing Mitsuwa in LA. If I lived near one I would go all the time.

LA eating fun (part 1)

While I was in cali, I got to swing by and visit a really good friend in LA. we only had 1.5 days, but it was enough time to squeeze in 6 meals. :) horaay for good eating buddies (and husbands who try to keep up).

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles: #2 SCOE's 1/4 Chix smothered with gravy & onions, and 2 waffles

I ordered the southern style cuz I'm not big on gravy, but my friend gave me a piece of her chicken and I was jealous. I liked how the skin was still crispy even with all that gravy on top. yum.

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles: #1 SCOE's 1/4 Chix prepared southern style, and 2 waffles

waffles were pretty plain. chicken was a little dry. i'd stick with the gravy chicken.

Moishe's Gyro

my friend loves the gyro here, but i didn't like how i could taste the gameyness in the lamb.
oh but i do love how it's in this market that's tucked away behind the Grove outdoor shopping center.
A very cute place to shop, eat, and play!

King Taco: Carne Asada and Carnitas Taco

I can't remember which one I liked better, but it was really about that green sauce anyway.

Pepe's Tacos: Pepe's Burrito (pork, rice, cheese, salsa, lettuce, onion tomato, guacamole, no beans, no cheese & sour cream on the side please)

this burrito was massive and good. It made me wish I left more room in my stomach so I could eat it all.
